Rove Gets It Wrong, Again
Karl Rove: genius or political party-ruining sociopath? It’s one of those questions that says more about the person asking the question than it does about the man himself. I also happen to think the answer—whatever it is—is irrelevant; I’m an “actions” over “intentions” type of bloggy a-hole.
Anyway, you probably know by now he’s all up in the WSJ claiming that Obama is the most divise dude, like, ever: “…no president in the past 40 years has done more to polarize America so much, so quickly.” And he’s got facts to prove his case!
Only problem is that he’s getting those facts wrong. The man behind the Pew poll (which is what “inspired” Rove’s conclusion, as if he hadn’t already come to that view months ago), says Rove is dead wrong.
Michael Dimock, who oversees Pew’s polling, had this to say:
“It’s unfair to say that Obama has caused this divisiveness or to say that he is a polarizing president,” Dimock said. He claimed that this phenomenon is driven by long-term trends, uncommon Dem enthusiasm, and the Republican tendency to be more hostile to opposing presidents than Democrats.
As Greg Sargent sums up: “Poor Michael Dimock. The people who are most interested in his poll don’t seem to care what he has to say about it.”
